Confronting Anti-Black Hate Across Canada Through Awareness, Advocacy, and Action

About the Project

BLAC Out Hate is a national initiative of the Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC) created to address the ongoing and harmful realities of anti-Black racism in Canada.

From overt acts of hate to systemic barriers embedded in our institutions, anti-Black hate continues to undermine the safety, dignity, and success of Black people across the country.

BLAC Out Hate responds by combining legal expertise, trauma-informed practice, and community engagement to:

The BLAC Out Hate Project is an initiative created and hosted by the Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC). This initiative is funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage in the Government of Canada.

Why It Matters

BLAC Out Hate is urgently needed to address these harms and to strengthen the resilience, safety, and well-being of Black communities nationwide.

Our Core Objectives

BLAC Out Hate is guided by five interconnected goals:

1. Prevent Anti-Black Hate

  • Awareness campaign with a video, brochures, and digital content.

2. Combat Hate Through Resources

  • Creation of an online hub with strategies to identify, respond to, cope with, and overcome anti-Black hate.

3. Build Advocacy Capacity

  • Training for at least 100 participants to enhance their ability to advocate for themselves and support peers.

4. Improve Reporting and Accountability

  • Launch of an anti-Black hate reporting system to collect data, identify trends, and support legal and advocacy action.

5. Strengthen Support Networks

  • Is aimed at permanently lifting Black people out of poverty in all its forms and improving the living conditions of Black people with low or no income.

Additionally, BLAC staff will receive training to strengthen their ability to respond to hate both personally and professionally.
