Letter in Solidarity with Parents of Black Children

The Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC) expresses solidarity with Parents of Black Children (PoBC)’s necessary and important work to support Black families navigating Ontario’s education system.

PoBC’s Advocacy Framework highlights conduct that they discourage school officials from engaging in when communicating with parents and advocates, including “tone-policing.” In a letter dated March 20, 2023, from the Ontario Principals’ Council (OPC) to PoBC, the OPC raises concerns about this item.

At BLAC, we agree that everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect and to both feel and be safe. Yet, PoBC’s concerns about tone-policing are real, especially as it affects Black parents within the education system.
